Project Purdey: The Push to Get Her Running

With time ticking down, the team is laser-focused on one crucial goal—getting Purdey running. After weeks of building, modifying, and perfecting every detail, the next major challenge begins: reconnecting all systems, from brakes and wiring to the new AliSport performance upgrades and the Demand Engineering exhaust.

First up—brake lines. After being disconnected for the roll cage installation at Safety Devices, they’re now back in place, and the team anxiously adds brake fluid. No drips? Good sign. After some serious pedal pumping (who needs a gym when you have Land Rovers?), the brakes are working. But the clutch? That’s another story. A problem for later.

Wiring Woes and the ECU Puzzle

Purdey’s ECU—the brain of the operation—needs a home. Normally tucked under a seat, that’s not an option here with the new rally setup. A new placement is found, out of the way but still accessible. But the real issue? No power is reaching the ECU. No power means no engine start, and the team is left troubleshooting every possible connection.

Manifold Madness and the Battle of the Studs

Next, the team tackles the TD5 manifold swap. The new AliSport reinforced manifold replaces the old, warped version, which had already seen some questionable repairs in the past. But getting the old one off is a battle, with a stud refusing to budge. The only solution? A welded nut trick that (after some intense effort) finally does the job.

With the new intercooler, hoses, and EGR delete kit installed, Purdey’s performance upgrades are taking shape. But the ever-growing pile of spare hoses raises new questions—do they have everything they need, or are they missing key connections? It’s another puzzle to solve.

Setbacks, But Not Defeat

The week ends with mixed results—the new components are in place, the wiring is proving stubborn, and Purdey’s engine remains silent. But with 70 days until the Santana Trophy, the Giti Gazelles aren’t slowing down. They’ll step away, regroup, and come back stronger next week to tackle the final hurdles.
